Resurgens Charitable Foundation received a 2013 Top 20 Sam Olens Business Community Service Award on Dec. 2 at the Cobb Galleria Centre for its service to the community. The annual honor, presented by Georgia Trend magazine and the Cobb Chamber, recognizes deserving member businesses for service to the community through support for not-for-profit organizations. 

In order to be considered for the award, an organization must be nominated by a non-profit. The Georgia Ballet, who is a frequent recipient of funds from the Resurgens Charitable Foundation for their DanceAbility program, nominated them. 

Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick, president of the Foundation and co-president of Resurgens Orthopaedics, said the recognition is humbling, and that the Foundation simply wants to make sure all children, including those with disabilities, have the chance to be active in some way. She will receive the award on behalf of the Foundation. 

“We are very honored and flattered to receive this wonderful award,” said Dr. Kirkpatrick. “We believe in the importance of children being active and participating in fun activities that stimulate their bodies and minds. This is vital to every child’s healthy development, and supporting programs such as Georgia Ballet’s DanceAbility is one simple way we can make that happen.” 

The Foundation also donates to programs such as Miracle Leagues, BlazeSports, and the Fragile Kids Foundation. Additionally, a major goal of the Foundation is to support construction of at least one all-abilities playground per year in Metro Atlanta. 

Resurgens Orthopaedics has five locations in Cobb County and strongly supports the Cobb Chamber and the citizens of Cobb County.  

The mission of Resurgens Charitable Foundation is to promote active lifestyles for people of all ages and abilities. It was formed in 2001 with a fund raising effort in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Since then, it has evolved to focus on youth health and fitness, and raising funds to build specially designed all-abilities playgrounds for children in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
